Another Sunday scrubbed due to winds gusting to 24 kts and a crosswind out of limits for the Falke.

Booming thermic conditions from the first launch and another fantastic day out at Shawbury with over 14 hours of flying.

We were super excited to celebrate Women in Gliding (WinG) Day at Shawbury

The lawn had been mown at Shawbury which meant that we could aero-tow off the grass for the first time.

Spirits were high today as we boxed four aircraft and sent them up to Lleweni Parc for the week.

With the promise of great weather and a thermic afternoon all the toys came out but conditions on the ground confined operations to the motor gliders only.

It’s the start of meteorological spring and the weather was with us - fantastic and a lot was achieved today.

With 30 launches on a February Winter’s day we’ve just about cracked the revised operating procedures on Shawbury’s r’way 18. 

The club were delighted to host a return visit by 1st Shawbury Air Scouts, a super evening with some great young guests.

Yet another weather system rattled Hangar 4 and yet another scrubbed flying day!  Still, there was plenty of admin to keep us occupied. 

A big well done to the “Two Harrys”, Harry C and Harry M both of whom went solo today. Top lob!

Persistent low mist delayed the start but in the time available everyone enjoyed their first flying day of 2025.

The momentum of 2023 continued into 2024 with the on-going popularity amongst our young service population of getting into the air. However, we could not have imagined the impact that both the weather and the RAF Shawbury runway resurfacing programme would have in the latter part of the year on the overall number of flying days.

The fog of the last three days had lifted and so had spirits.  After an 11 week pause it was with huge relief that we recommenced flying today, our last flying day of 2024.
